Apollo Killer? Try This… (AI Ark Review 2026)

If you’re relying on Apollo for lead generation, I’ve got some bad news and some really good news.

The bad news? Third-party Apollo scrapers got killed overnight. Tools like Export Apollo and The Boomerang are now throttled to 72 hours or completely broken. Exporting leads directly from Apollo now costs 10 to 20 times more than it used to, and here’s the kicker—the data is 60 to 90 days stale. That means you’re emailing people who’ve already left their companies. On top of that, you still need a separate email validation tool, which just adds to your monthly costs.

The good news? There’s a tool that fixes all three of these problems at once.

Meet AI Ark: The Apollo Alternative That Actually Delivers

AI Ark refreshes its data every 30 days, can do everything that Apollo and Clay can do, has about twice as much data, and costs three times less than Apollo. Yes, you read that right—three times cheaper.

In this post, I’m going to break down exactly how AI Ark works, how it compares to Apollo, and why I’ve switched my entire lead generation workflow to use it. I’ve even built a custom AI Ark workflow using Claude that runs a signal waterfall on your lead list, qualifies companies and leads, finds the strongest signals, personalizes messaging, and adds them to SmartLead, Instantly, or whatever sequencer you prefer.

Database Size: AI Ark Crushes Apollo

Let’s start with the numbers, because they’re honestly shocking.

AI Ark has 72 million company records compared to Apollo’s 32.5 million. That’s 2.2 times more coverage for companies. For people records, AI Ark has 412 million versus Apollo’s 243.9 million—that’s 1.7 times more coverage.

Why does this matter? Two reasons. First, you simply have more people to reach out to. Second, leads that are easily surfaced in Apollo get hit up constantly because everyone’s been using it for years. With AI Ark, you’re accessing leads that aren’t even in Apollo’s database, which means they’re likely to be more responsive to your outreach.

Data Freshness: Stop Emailing People Who Don’t Work There Anymore

Apollo updates their data once every 3 to 6 months. That’s why you keep getting bounce backs and auto-replies saying the person has left the company.

AI Ark refreshes their data every 30 days. That’s a massive difference when it comes to deliverability and actually reaching decision-makers who are still in their roles.

Pre-Validated Emails: Eliminate an Entire Tool from Your Stack

Here’s where things get really interesting. Apollo gives you email addresses and claims they’re verified, but you should never trust that. You always need to run them through Million Verifier, Debounce, or another validation tool before sending.

AI Ark handles email validation completely differently. They do real-time validation of email addresses using BounceBan, which validates every email during export. Any email from AI Ark has been validated within the last 30 days or will be validated in real-time when you pull it.

Here’s what makes BounceBan special: it can verify catch-all email addresses. Unlike other validators that just mark catch-all addresses as “risky,” BounceBan actually tells you whether that catch-all email is deliverable or not. This means you end up with more valid email addresses you can actually reach out to.

Pricing: AI Ark Is Ridiculously Cheaper

Let’s do the math, because this is where Apollo really falls apart.

For 15,000 credits per month:

  • AI Ark: $79 per month (includes email validation)
  • Apollo: $99 base plan + $45 for extra credits = $144
  • BounceBan (for Apollo): $51 per month to validate 15,000 emails
  • Total Apollo cost: $195 per month

That’s 2.5 times more expensive with Apollo, and we’re just getting started.

For 30,000 credits per month:

  • AI Ark: $119 per month
  • Apollo: $99 base + $200 extra credits + $102 for BounceBan validation = $401 per month

That’s 3.5 times cheaper with AI Ark. Let that sink in.

Powerful Filtering Options That Apollo Doesn’t Have

AI Ark has some seriously advanced filtering capabilities that make building targeted lists so much easier.

Previous Job Title Filtering

This is huge. You can filter by someone’s current job title AND their previous job titles. Looking for first-time founders? Exclude words like “founder,” “CEO,” or “managing director” from their previous job and only search for those titles in their current role. Want founders with a tech background? Search for people who are currently founders but previously held titles like CTO or Technology Director.

Keyword Search Across LinkedIn Profiles

You can search for specific keywords in a person’s LinkedIn headline, summary, work history, education, volunteering, courses, awards, patents, skills, and more. The level of detail you can get into is fantastic, especially if you’re a recruiter looking for candidates with specific qualifications.

Profile Badges

This one’s really unique. You can filter by LinkedIn profile badges like verified accounts, paid social members, “open to work,” influencer, creator, or the “hiring” badge. If you’re in recruitment, finding people with the hiring badge applied (there are currently 425,000 of them) is absolute gold.

Current and Past Company

Search for people who currently work at or previously worked at specific companies like Amazon or Google. This is incredibly useful for recruiters or if you’re targeting people with experience at certain organizations.

Apollo Still Has Some Great Features

To be fair, Apollo isn’t completely obsolete. It still has some excellent features that AI Ark doesn’t offer yet.

The job posting section in Apollo is phenomenal. You can search for decision-makers at companies that are actively hiring for specific job titles, filter by job post location, number of active postings, and when the job was posted. You can even run daily automations through the API to uncover new opportunities.

So if you want the best of both worlds, use both tools like I do. But for the core lead generation work, AI Ark is now my primary database.

Look-Alike Company Searches

AI Ark can find companies similar to ones you specify. Search for a company like SmartLead, and it’ll show you similar companies with a similarity score out of 100. You’ll find competitors like Mailshake, Quickmail, Instantly, and others in that space.

Once you’ve selected the relevant companies, you can click “find people” and start applying people-level filters to hone in on exactly who you want to reach.

How I Use AI Ark in My Workflow

If you’re new to outbound, you’ll probably just pull leads from a database and put them straight into a sequencer. But as you get more serious, you’ll realize that not all those leads are actually qualified.

I’ve built a workflow in Claude that uses AI Ark as the database and runs through Make. Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Company Search – I start with company-level filtering because it only costs 0.1 credits per company. Pull 1,000 companies? That’s just 100 AI Ark credits.

Step 2: Qualify Companies – A GPT prompt analyzes company descriptions to determine if each is actually a fit. Maybe 75% qualify, 25% don’t.

Step 3: Find Decision-Makers – Only at qualified companies. This costs 0.5 credits per person.

Step 4: Qualify People – Make sure their job titles actually match our ICP.

Step 5: Pull Email Addresses – Only for qualified people. Another 0.5 credits per email.

Step 6: Signal Enrichment – Run signal enrichments using Apify or other tools, but only on qualified leads.

Step 7: Personalization – Generate personalized messaging with GPT based on the signals we found.

Step 8: Add to Sequencer – Push qualified, personalized leads into your campaign.

By qualifying at each step, I’m saving massive amounts of credits and only spending money on leads that are actually worth reaching out to. Everything populates in a Google Sheet as my single source of truth before leads get added to campaigns.

The Bottom Line

When you consider the data freshness, database size, built-in email validation, and pricing, there’s basically no reason to choose Apollo over AI Ark. Unless you have specific use cases that require Apollo’s unique filters (like job postings), AI Ark is the clear winner.

It’s fresher data, more data, validated emails, and three times cheaper. That’s a no-brainer.
